Translation

I translate texts on all kinds of subjects, but I have particular experience with:

Legal texts: ranging from general terms and conditions, contracts and articles of association to deeds.
Business texts: including manuals, newsletters, employee regulations, codes of conduct and emails.
Governmental texts: including reports, policy documents and letters.

You can also contact me about other types of text. In that case, I will carefully assess whether I can deliver a good translation. I follow the principle of ‘do what you are good at’, meaning that I will only take on assignments if I know I will do a good job. In practice, that means solely accepting assignments in subject areas in which I am experienced and knowledgeable. After all, I want to ensure that you are happy with the result.

Revision

Revision means that I will read English or Dutch translations very carefully, with my eye on the original text, to check whether the translation is faithful to the original text with regard to aspects such as completeness, correct interpretation, terminology and style, but also whether these new texts are grammatically and idiomatically sound. An extra quality assurance!

Editing

Editing means I will check whether a text (in English or Dutch) is correct from a linguistic point of view. It could be a translation or an original text that you or someone else has written, and that you would like to have checked on linguistic grounds, just to be sure that no grammatical mistakes have been overlooked. It may be that you have made a contribution to a newsletter in English, but your mother tongue isn’t English. In this case, it is reassuring to have an expert editor examine your text. Editing mainly involves checking grammar, punctuation and spelling, but it can extend, if you wish, to style and formatting. In other words, dotting the i's and crossing the t's!
